Shrink ratio 2.5:1

In our assortment, you will find not only various types of heat shrink tubing but also different shrink ratios. Each heat shrink tubing has a fixed shrink ratio, meaning that the degree to which its diameter shrinks when heated is predetermined. This does not vary by size or packaging format. What does the shrink ratio of heat shrink tubing mean?

The shrink ratio indicates how much the diameter of heat shrink tubing decreases when heated. A shrink ratio of 2.5:1 means that after full shrinkage, the tubing's diameter is two and a half times smaller than when originally supplied.

The product specifications for heat shrink tubing typically list two key properties:

  • Inner diameter as supplied (before the heat shrink tubing is heated)
  • Inner diameter after shrinkage (after full shrinkage)

The shrink ratio shows how these diameters relate to each other.

What shrink ratios are available?

We offer heat shrink tubing with the following shrink ratios:

How to use heat shrink tubing with a 2.5:1 shrink ratio

Follow these steps for the proper use of 2.5:1 heat shrink tubing:

1. Determine the diameter of the cable on which you want to apply the heat shrink tubing

2. Measure the required length of the heat shrink tubing

3. Choose the appropriate type of heat shrink tubing

4. Select the correct diameter. Choose heat shrink tubing with an inner diameter after shrinkage that is slightly smaller than the cable diameter. Example: If your cable has a diameter of 6.55 mm, select heat shrink tubing with an inner diameter after shrinkage of 6 mm. With a 2.5:1 shrink ratio, this means that the original inner diameter of the heat shrink tubing is 15 mm.

Applying the heat shrink tubing

1. Cut the heat shrink tubing to the correct length.

2. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the cable.

3. Evenly heat the tubing with a heat gun or soldering iron until it fits tightly around the cable.

The heat shrink tubing will now securely enclose the cable, providing protection.
