Polypropylene with metal pigments
Polypropylene is a plastic that offers better chemical resistance than other types of plastics, such as polyamide 6.6. By mixing polypropylene with metal pigments, these cable ties offer high detectability.
Types of polypropylene cable ties with metal pigments
Our range includes one type of cable tie made from polypropylene with metal pigments: the Ty-Rap® plastic cable tie with metal pigments and stainless steel locking barb, made from polypropylene.
Properties of polypropylene with metal pigments
Polypropylene is resistant to chemicals, making it suitable for environments where the material may be exposed to alcohol, salts, and acids. The tiny metal pigments embedded in the plastic make even small parts of the material detectable. Additionally, the blue color helps visually detect (parts of) the material. Finally, polypropylene floats, making it more noticeable if it ends up, for example, in a vat of chemicals.
Polypropylene with metal pigments is resistant to temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +85 °C. The material meets flammability class UL 94 HB and is halogen-free and silicone-free.
Applications of polypropylene with metal pigments
Thanks to its detectability and chemical resistance, polypropylene with metal pigments is often used in environments where both of these properties are critical. This includes the chemical industry, where contamination in the production process must be quickly detected. Other sectors where this material—and thus these cable ties—are suitable include the pharmaceutical and food industries.
Alternatives to polypropylene with metal pigments
An alternative to polypropylene with metal pigments is polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments. We offer cable ties made from this material under the WKK and Ty-Rap® brands. The main advantage over polypropylene is the price: polyamide 6.6 cable ties are more cost-effective. The main disadvantage is that polyamide 6.6 is less resistant to chemicals.
Personal advice
Wondering if cable ties made from polypropylene with metal pigments are the right choice for your application? The decision depends on several factors. What kind of exposure will the cable tie face? What is the maximum temperature the material needs to withstand? Our specialists are happy to help you choose the right material. Feel free to contact them for personalized advice.
