Cable tie mounts: which types are available, how do you use them, and for what?

Posted on 21 January 2022
A distinction can be made between two types of cable tie mounts: self-adhesive cable tie mounts and saddle tie mounts with screw mount. In addition, cable tie wall plugs could also be seen as a type of cable tie mount. Read more about wall plugs for cable ties here. What are the properties of cable tie mounts? How do you use them, and for what purposes? Read it in this blog!
Which type of cable tie mounts are there?
There are, disregarding cable tie wall plugs, two types of cable tie mounts:
- Self-adhesive cable tie mounts
- Saddle tie mounts with screw mount
Both of these types of cable tie mounts are used for the same goal: guiding cable or tubes along a surface.
Properties of self-adhesive cable tie mounts and saddle tie mounts with screw mount
Both self-adhesive cable tie mounts and saddle tie mounts with screw mount are made of Polyamide 6.6. They therefore have an operating temperature ranging from -40 °C to + 85 °C. Both of the mounts meet the UL 94 V-2 flammability class.
Both of the types of mounts are available in two colours: black and natural. The black version is UV-resistant.
For what purposes are cable tie mounts used?
Cable tie mounts are used for guiding cables, cable bundles or tubes along a surface. By guiding a cable tie through the mount, and fixating the cables or tube using the cable tie, the cables or tube can easily be guided along, for example, a wall.
How are cable tie mounts used?
Self-adhesive cable tie mounts and saddle tie mounts with screw mount are used in the same way, with one important difference: self-adhesive cable tie mounts have an adhesive strip, with which the mount can be attached to a surface. Saddle tie mounts have a drill hole. Using a screw, the mount can be screwed to a wall or other surface through the drill hole.
After the mount has been attached, you guide a cable tie through the holes in the cable tie mount. Place the tube, cable or cable bundle on the mount, and fixate it on the mount using the cable tie. Pull the end of the cable tie, to make sure that it fits tightly around the bundle of tube. Finally, cut off the loose end of the cable tie. Make sure to use enough mounts to support the tube or cable bundle along the surface on which the mounts are used.
